About the event
The National Action Plan to Improve Health Literacy (NAPIHL) is critical for athletic trainers because it provides a framework for improving how health information is communicated to patients and their families. The framework is essential because many patients have limited health literacy, making it difficult to understand/follow instructions regarding their health care. The NAPIHL provides strategies for making health information more accessible, understandable, and actionable, which can help athletic trainers to provide better care to their patients. This session examines the seven goals believed critical to improving health literacy amongst patients and will offer some strategies for achieving them.
Dr. David C. Berry is a licensed athletic trainer with 30 years of clinical and higher education experience. As a Professor of Kinesiology at Saginaw Valley State University, David teaches courses in rehabilitation medicine and prehospital emergency management.
