About the event

In Michigan, all professions licensed or registered under the Michigan Public Health Code, including athletic trainers, are required to complete implicit bias training for initial licensure and renewal. This requirement, initiated in 2022, mandates a minimum of 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of the license cycle

Elaboration:

  • Training Requirement:

All licensed or registered professionals, including athletic trainers, must complete implicit bias training as a condition for initial licensure or renewal.

  • Timing:

The requirement took effect on June 1, 2022. Renewals after this date require the training, while those before June 1, 2022, were not needed.

  • Hours Required:

A minimum of 1 hour of implicit bias training is required for each year of the license or registration cycle.

  • Content:

The training should cover identifying unconscious biases, understanding how biases impact perception and decision-making, and strategies for mitigating their negative impact.

  • Compliance:

During application or renewal, licensees must attest to compliance with the new rule.

  • Modality:

Acceptable modalities of training include live webinars, live presentations, or asynchronous webinars that allow for interaction.

  • Example:

If a renewal occurs in 2025, an athletic trainer would need to complete 1 hour of implicit bias training for each year of their license cycle.
