About the Keynote Speaker:

Lorin Cartright

Lorin Cartwright received her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education (with honors) and a minor in Biology, Health and Athletic Training from Grand Valley State University and her Master of Science in Education from University of Michigan. Lorin has been an Educator, Athletic Trainer, Athletic Administrator, and Assistant Principal.  She has served the profession in many capacities a few of the leadership service include the Athletic Training Licensure Committee, Bureau of Health Professions in the state of Michigan;  Michigan Task Force on Women in Sports, Michigan Board of Athletic Training; several leadership and committee positions within MATS, GLATA, and NATA. Additionally, she has contributed to the profession in countless ways to advance the profession of athletic training from her leadership work, to presenting at conferences, to advocating and more. Lorin has written several textbooks and articles. Her most recent works include Athletic Trainers and Patients Who Identify as LGBTQ+: Stressors of Sexual Minority Identity and How it Affect Mental Health, and Considerations in Addressing Bias to Ensure Inclusion and Healthcare. article, Fundamentals of Athletic Training textbook, Athletic Trainer’s BOC Exam Prep. textbook, Cultural Competency in Sports Medicine. textbook. Lorin has received several awards and recognition for her contribution to advance our profession of athletic training. Her most recent award happened this past June 2019 into the MATS Hall of Fame.

The Michigan Athletic Trainer’s Society is a professional membership organization for Athletic Trainers (AT), Athletic Training students, and others who seek to advance the profession of Athletic Training in the State of Michigan. Athletic Trainers are recognized as allied health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize activity and participation of patients and clients. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, clinical evaluation and assessment, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities.
